Externship |
The first step to becoming an Emotionally Therapist is to attend a 4-day Externship. The Externship provides an overview of Emotionally Focused Therapy including the stages and steps of the model, adult attachment theory, and EFT interventions with couples. The externship experience includes the observation of live and video recorded therapy sessions, presentations of theory and clinical techniques, role play exercises, and discussion of specific cases, clinical material and issues. The 4-day Externship is a pre-requisite for Advanced Core Skills Training and other Master classes, and is the first step toward certification in EFT. |

Core Skills Training |
| Core Skills Training is a small group experience focused on developing and refining the core skills of the EFT model. Core Skills allows participants to do a "deep dive" into each stage, step, and intervention of the model. Each session will include practical instruction, experiential exercises, video examples, and case consultation. Core Skills training is four, 2-day training events that occur over the span of approximately one year. Each 2-day session is dedicated to specific steps of the model and the therapeutic tasks and interventions characteristic of those steps |
Advanced Training |
There are other training opportunities beyond Externship and Core Skills. At least once a yea the Couples Institute brings in EFT trainers from around the globe to offer master classes in special or advanced topics. Past topics have included Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFiT) and working with anger in EFT. |
